Nidelva has always been known as an excellent salmon river. The stretch from the sea inland to Eivindstadfossen waterfall has five zones where rod fishing is permitted for salmon and sea trout. (See the map).
Permitted bait: flies, spinners and worms. Live bait is not allowed. You must disinfect your equipment if you have been fishing elsewhere. Please remember to report your catch.

A number of steps have been taken to improve fishing on the river, including liming, grids to lead the fish, removal of two artificial sills and controlled flood releases to help the fish move upstream.

The 2006 season was the best for many years.
